Introducing WECAN’s 2024 interns
My name is Sarah Waters and I am a senior at Andover High School interning for Andover WECAN on youth public outreach. My interest in public outreach stems from my passion for politics and social justice, and I especially love courses in subjects like English, Psychology, and History.
My interest in sustainability arose following my participation in Connecticut College’s pre-college program, “Cultivating Climate Hope”, in which I discovered how the integration of non-STEM fields of study, such as literature and anthropology, can help to convey ideas of climate hope, ideally effectuating greater societal change.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy service-oriented activities, such as participation in AHS’s Global Pathways program and Lazarus House. Through the Global Pathways organization, I contributed to sustainable development projects in Thailand, to work to combat food insecurity in Thai elementary schools, as well as ensuring the safety and ethics of elephant sanctuaries in Chiang Mai.
And we have two interns this year: Welcome to Lincoln!
Lincoln Pekock is also an Andover WECAN’s intern this year thourgh the Environmental Sustainability Internship Course (ESIC) at Andover High School. He is looking forward to his involvement with Andover’s upcoming Climate Summit and helping expand and host Andover’s second annual Youth Sustainability Fair.
When he is not working on his duties as an intern for WECAN, Lincoln enjoys acting in films and participating in theatre productions through his high school and local community groups.
Both are pictured above helping out at the Andover Sustainability Fair this fall.
