Great price
Andover got a really great contract in the energy market! Now the Town has launched Andover Community Power (ACP) with low prices and no strings. The program is a carefully designed alternative to your current electricity supply options.

More renewable energy
Andover Community Power offers you the chance to get more renewable energy in your electric supply. The program offers three electricity supply options to all Andover residents and businesses. The default option, Andover Standard, will cost less than the current National Grid Residential Basic Service rate, currently 18.213 cents/kWh for residents, while also providing an additional 15% renewable energy.

If you are interested in using 100% renewable electricity you can choose to opt-up to Andover Ultimate. The rate for Andover Ultimate is 14.637 cents/kWh, which is less than the current National Grid Basic Service rate. You can be using 100% renewable electricity to power your home or business! To do this you need to opt-up.

For a typical home using 1,000 kWh of electricity a month opting up would cost an additional $7.32 a month. That’s about the same as buying 2 medium Dunkin’ iced coffees in a month. For 2 iced coffees you can use 100% renewable electricity!

Simple.
Big impact.
Low cost.

What more could you want?

Who is my electricity supplier
While most residents in Andover get their electricity bill from National Grid, there are actually 2 parts to your bill. One is delivery services and the other is supplier services. National Grid provides the delivery services, which includes billing. National Grid may also be your supplier. To find out who your electricity supplier is, look on page 2 of your National Grid bill. Near the top left, you should see “Supplier Services” and under this the word SUPPLIER. To the right of the word SUPPLIER you will see the name of your electricity supplier. If it says National Grid then you can chose to opt-up to Andover Ultimate.

How to opt up
We have a goal of 20% of households opting up to 100% renewable energy with Andover Ultimate. Join us now!

To opt-up to Andover Ultimate go to the ACP website. You will need:

  • Your National Grid Account Number (found on your bill).

  • Your customer name key from your National Grid bill. Your customer name key should be on page 2 of your National Grid bill in the blue box after the word “Cycle”. It is usually the first 4 letters of the last name associated with the account.

Note: if you have paperless billing you can log in to your National Grid account online and select view current bill.

Once enrolled, you may always leave the program at any time, without penalty.

If you have questions there is a Resources section on the ACP website with lots more detailed information. Or email us and we will see if we can answer your question.

Opting up for 100% clean energy is the most significant action a resident can take to reduce pollution and step up for climate action!

FAQ

I already have solar panels should I still opt up?

Yes! If you ever get a bill from National Grid, perhaps in December when your solar panels don’t generate enough electricity for your consumption, then you are purchasing at least some electricity from the grid. Let that electricity be clean energy! Your solar panels will continue to supply you with electricity. ACP will supply you with electricity when your solar panels don’t produce enough.

I have community solar, what should I do?

Go you, you’re supporting more solar farms in New England. Now you can also get 100% clean energy with Andover Ultimate. So keep your community solar and head to Andover Community Power to opt up to Andover Ultimate!

If I participate in ACP can I continue my participation in the MA EV Off-Peak Charging Program?

Yes. Great that you are driving electric ⚡️! Andover Community Power only impacts the supply portion of your National Grid bill. You will continue to receive Paperless Billing Credit and any MA EV Off-Peak Charging Program credits directly on your National Grid bill.

Why is Andover giving people the ability to opt out?  Is there something negative about the program that we don't know?

Not at all. Andover's decision to offer an opt-out option stems from Massachusetts' framework that allows electric customers to select their supply products from competitive suppliers. This reflects the state's commitment to fostering a competitive electricity market.

Andover Community Power (ACP) stands as a testament to the town's dedication to providing residents with choice and transparency in their electricity supply. ACP is thoroughly vetted by the town and offers a fixed rate for 42 months, providing stability and predictability in energy costs. Importantly, ACP allows customers the flexibility to opt out at any time without incurring any fees—a contrast to the potential fees imposed by many other electric suppliers.

We're confident in the benefits and integrity of the Andover Community Power program and believe it aligns with our commitment to serving the community's best interests.

How much more than Andover Standard will this cost me?
Andover Ultimate costs .732 cents more per kWH than Andover Standard. So if you use 1000kWh each month that’s about $7 a month or about the cost of 2 iced coffees. And BOTH cost less than National Grid’s Basic Service.

What about when National Grid’s rate changes?
The National Grid Basic Service R-1 and R-2 rates starting August 1 is 16.055 cents/kWh. That’s 1.4 cents MORE than Andover Ultimate. So you will still be saving money over National Grid’s Basic Service Rate.

Is this Big Government?
Some folks think ACP is Big Government making us do something.  Actually, it's just the opposite.  This program was approved by the Andover Town Meeting in 2020— Andover residents! The Town of Andover is giving you some very appealing options.  If you don't like it, don't take the option.

The ACP Standard and Ultimate options give you more renewable energy than National Grid's Basic Supply, and both cost less now and at least through January 2025. What's not to like?  And the ACP rate is fixed for 42 months. The National Grid rate changes ever six months and has trended upwards.

Where does the renewable electricity really come from?
Green Energy Consumers supplies the additional renewable energy. The renewable energy comes from the New England sources shown in the map. Your participation in Andover Community Power helps create demand for more renewable energy.
