Four Town Boards Unanimously Recommend Sustainability Resolution
In unanimous votes four Town of Andover boards have recommended that town voters approve Andover’s Sustainability Resolution at town meeting.
Andover Green Advisory Board approved the article early in the process.
At the February 7th meeting of the Conservation Commission, Kate Margolese presented the Sustainability Resolution and asked the Commission to recommend. Commissioner Jon Honea commented that “We’re not doing nearly enough fast enough” before offering a motion to support the warrant article.
Just last week on March 20th, Gracie, Andover High School Senior, presented the resolution to the School Committee.
Following Gracie’s presentation, Lauren Conoscenti, School Committee member, commented, “Working on the Andover High school building committee, sustainability has been such a big part of the conversation. It’s been really exciting to hear what the possibilities are. I think this aligns very nicely with that potential project.”
And Tracey Spruce, also on the School Committee shared, “This aligns really well with some of the investments we’ve made and decisions we’ve made like this year we have added electric buses to our transportation fleet.”
The committee then voted unanimously to recommend approval of the warrant article.
Finally, at the March 27 Select Board meeting Margolese presented the article and requested that the board vote to recommend. She shared names of the 15 groups in town who have stepped forward in supporting the Sustainability Resolution, including quotes from Andover WalkBike, Andover Community Trust and the Andover High School Environmental Club. Following her presentation the Select Board enthusiastically voted unanimously to recommend the article to town meeting.
The Sustainability Resolution is Article 28 on the Town Meeting warrant. Town meeting will be held May 1 at 7:00 PM at the J. Everett Collins Center for the Performing Arts at Andover High School, 100 Shawsheen Road.
